Hi I'm Saira.

My mission is to create inclusive, accessible and human-centred experiences. I sit at the unique intersection of applied linguistics and digital content design.

With 12 years as an English language educator and 5 years designing digital services across public, finance, healthcare and education, I understand both the science of how people learn and the technical requirements of delivering content to diverse audiences.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, a Masters of Arts in Applied Linguistics with TESOL, a qualified trainer, proof reader and editor and have International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) qualification.

A dynamic mix that allows me to make change and inspire creativity. I don't just write or design, I make sure your content reaches everyone.

My design philosophy

I believe that inclusive design is good design. Whether it's a digital app or a textbook, if your content creates barriers, it fails its users. My 4 pillars:

  • Humanistic: people need clearly communicated information to make informed decisions

  • Helpful: I use data and empathy to help the most people achieve their goals

  • Inclusive: no one gets left behind. Being different isn't a barrier, it's a fact of life we design for

  • Pragmatic: I focus on what works and produces tangible results, not just visuals

Whether you are building the next generation of learning materials or transforming public digital services, I bring the same rigor, empathy, and accessibility focus to every project.

Blog

I like reading and sometimes I like writing about what I’ve read.  This blog includes topics on accessibility, designing things and anything else that interests me. All views are my own.

Publications

Languages issues, December 2018, Second language idiom acquisition with English as an Second or Overseas Language learners.

My research explored how English language students learn idioms through mental imagery and a conversational context. I analysed how effective these teaching techniques are in acquiring and producing idioms when recalling literal and figurative meanings and application within a story writing context in a classroom setting.
